ADNOC Signs AI Partnership With OpenAI and G42

ADNOC plans to apply AI to oilfield development and decisions across its business under a multiyear agreement with OpenAI and G42, according to the company. The partnership was signed on November 2, 2026, during ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi.

Under ADNOC’s plan, its industrial expertise and data would be used alongside GPT models and OpenAI’s Frontier platform, with the applications running on sovereign AI infrastructure operated by G42 in the UAE. OpenAI describes Frontier as a platform through which businesses can create, deploy and manage AI agents. Its functions include giving agents access to company information and systems so they can perform tasks involving several steps.

For the first application, ADNOC said the planned field-development system would bring together information accumulated over decades. That material covers thousands of wells, hundreds of surface facilities and multiple reservoirs. The system would also incorporate costs, capital requirements and commercial factors when preparing development plans for an entire field.

ADNOC’s stated target is to produce and optimize those plans within hours instead of months. That timing is a goal for the proposed application, rather than a result demonstrated by the deployment.

A separate application is planned to link operational and commercial decisions, according to ADNOC. Its scope includes refining and processing, along with production, logistics, trading and sales. The company said connected AI agents would generate forecasts for crude supply and demand, as well as prices and margins. Those agents would then assess possible effects on operations and commercial activity before the oil has been extracted.

ADNOC said it would retain oversight of the applications, with human experts supervising decisions that carry consequential effects. The planned uses are specific to the partnership; OpenAI’s description of Frontier’s general capabilities does not establish what ADNOC’s deployment has achieved.

The company said the agreement would build on a programme that already includes more than 200 AI applications. Within that work, ENERGYai supplies specialist intelligence about the subsurface. ADNOC said Frontier’s planned role is to link information with decision-making throughout the broader business.
