Ofgem Gets Approval For £520m In Boiler Upgrade Vouchers

Ofgem has approval to issue up to £520 million worth of Boiler Upgrade Scheme vouchers in the current financial year, according to a Department for Energy Security and Net Zero notice. The authorisation covers the scheme in England and Wales.

The scheme provides grants towards the initial installation costs of heat pumps and, where eligibility requirements are met, biomass boilers, according to Ofgem. It covers both residential and non-residential properties.

The department said applications had continued to increase over a sustained period before the authorisation. It described the approval as a way to give assurance about the continued availability of vouchers and to support consumers and industry in continuing heat pump installations. The notice was published on 5 November 2026.

Ofgem administers the programme, with MCS-certified installers handling voucher applications and redemption on behalf of property owners. Under the process described by Ofgem, the regulator handles applications and makes payments to installers once vouchers have been successfully redeemed.
